I decided to install Win 10 on a new disk and activate with Win 7 key, just in case I might want to upgrade later. It went a bit wrong so I am starting again, just thought I would ask you to verify plan.
Desktop, Win 7 pro 64 bit
Downloaded 64 bit ISO and burnt to CD.
Purchased drive from CEX (!), took out old drive, put in new drive and cd, re-booted from CD ( I thought). In wasn't long before Windows came up but then there was a sign in screen with someone elses outlook address.
Hope I have not mucked up activation, it was briefly internet connected.
I assumed that the CEX drive would be clean and that the CD install would ask to format.
Plan B
Currently booted to Live Linux CD
1) Re format CEX hard drive
2) Download new ISO to USB from this link
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
3) Re boot from USB and see what happens
4) Hopefully enter Win7 key for activation
Any comments on Plan B?

me neither... not that fussed about Win 10 in the future, am liking Linux at the moment. Was mainly doing it as an exercise to test process as plan to do it on someone's laptop ( need to check that laptop drive is clear first, may take it back to CEX to check!).0 -
Plan C
1) Download new ISO to USB
2) Re boot from USB
3) Enter Win7 key for activation
4) Delete any existing partitions and add as required, format hard drive as part of the installation process, select new installation
Worked for me about a week ago.0 -
Plan B isn't needed. Your BIOS/UEFI has booted to the hard drive, instead of your USB drive. All you need to do is get into the settings and tell it to try to boot from USB - maybe you have a boot menu which would speed things up - 'Del', 'F12' etc - one of those keys.
When you DO boot from USB, you'll be able to format the drive from the installation before the files start copying over. You already have the .ISO downloaded, and a bootable USB disk made, don't you? No need to do that twice.0 -
Thanks all, successfully installed and activated. :beer:0
