Morning All,
A bit of advice please, my wife sadly died 12yrs ago.
I sorted all finances with bank's etc. so I thought, Santander recently saying an ISA account in my wife's name was still active, I thought I had closed any accounts she had with Santander.
Anyway there was an amount in the account which has since been paid to me with interest.
The reason for this post is if I too had died during the last twelve year this money would never have been given to my children because they couldn't have been found even if the bank had known there names.
Should I complain/ claim for something or leave well alone?
I gave the proceeds to my nippers, that wont last long then HA!
Look forward to your replies.

What is the basis of your complaint?
That you thought you had closed all the accounts she had with Santander:cool:.
How did you become aware of this account?
Did you not receive any correspondence about this account - interest statement/annual statement during the past 12 years?
If you didn't in fact close this account, what do you expect Santander to do, other than what they have now done?0 -
This is an oddity.
Santander wrote to you about an account in your wife's name?
This would indicate that they were aware that she had died (presumably because you advised them ( or possibly Abbey National?) of this twelve years ago.
Was this account one which you forgot? Or one that you requested them to close and they failed to do so?
If it was left open. why have there been no statements of interest all these years?0 -
Claim for what exactly? If you, as next of kin weren't aware and left it for 12 years, its unlikely that Santander staff would look for you apart from when they do a big audit which I imagine is how they found this account.0

First and only thing I heard of account was a letter through the post recently. just thought it should have been sent earlier. Don't need to claim anything just thought as everyone is claiming for something these days maybe I should join the queue.
By the sounds of it, it's not worth while, just thought I would ask.
Thanks for the advice.

Has tax been deducted from the interest on your late wife's ISA?
- if so, then Santander was aware of your wife's death.
- if not, you can expect a call from HMRC.0 -

Was the letter addressed to you - if so, in what capacity? Or was it addressed to your (late) wife?
What did it say?
Did your late wife have other accounts at Santander which were closed at the time of her death?
You haven't given enough information to show whether Santander are at fault or not:cool:.0
