Recruiter sent my CV to my Boss

Hi guys,

I've been looking for new jobs on the downlow, so I've uploaded my CV to a couple of job hunting sites. I've since found out through personal sources that a recruiter sent my CV to my boss, clearly not having read the CV knowing I'm already working here.

Livid isn't the word.

Is there anything I can do? I don't know which recruiter it was unfortunately. How inept do you have to be as a recruiter to send a CV to the company they are already at?!

    You're working from the mistaken position that recruiters do anything more than take a cursory glance at CVs for pertinent skill sets, then send CVs out en-masse.

    If your boss is concerned then that's his/her lookout - a boss should always expect his reports to be looking to advance.

    Nothing surprises me anymore. Recruiters are inept from my experience.

    Some recruiters are good, some recruiters are bad. I think you have met one of the latter! Nothing you can really do about it especially if you dont know which recruiter.

    One thing I think its important to remember as a candidate dealing with a recruiter is that they are not working for you, they are absolutely 100% working for their client and the bad ones would chuck you under the bus for a bit of comission or to look good in front of their client.

    I think that you can ask each recruiter to let you have a lost of the posts they haveput put forward for, if they do so you can identify which it was and make a formal complaint.

    I once had this happen to me - foruntately in my case my boss knew I was looking for another job, as I was on a fixed term maternity cover cotract at the time, and it was he who gave me the details he'd received.

    Hahaha, this happened to me too. Emailed my CV directly to HR, who were coincidentally recruiting for my role, and HR chatted to my manager, who then asked me if I was looking for work. I just said no & that I like to keep my profiles up to date. Handed notice in 1 week later after an offer!

    They have no right to pull you up on it providing you're doing your job.

    They are working 100% for themselves, they'll also quite happily screw a client over by fishing for employees to place elsewhere (and as a bonus create yet another role they can fill).

    If a recruiter ever asks you what other companies you've applied to with another agent "so they don't double up", they're really just fishing to find who is recruiting at the moment so they can call up pushing their own client list. There's not a lot of honour in the sector to be frank.

    Sums up recruitment consultants. Most are as thick as pig***t and make your average lying estate agent seem like Lady Di.

    That’s very easy to say on an internet board. Its not fair, there are good ones and even the bad ones are useful as long as your interests are aligned. They wouldn’t exist if they didn’t perform a useful function.

    You notice in my post I stated "MOST"

    There may be some good recruitment consultants out there but I have yet to meet any. Most of them have come across as clueless, have no morals and appear to be employed to just tick boxes. Not to mention stab candidates in the back

    As you say there could be some good ones but one thing for certain is that boy there are so many bad ones out there that they far outweigh the good ones:mad:
