ESA, does it work like this?

What does it mean by 'disability premium'?

What classes you as an ehnhanced disability or a severe disability premium?

I'm on income related ESA. I have my assessment tomorrow face to face. If I get put into the support group, that means I'll receive at least the £125 (the £109 benefit plus the £15.75 bonus). Is that correct or am I completely off?

Thank you :):j

Enhanced premium is payable if you are on certain levels of PIP / DLA. SDP is only payable if you are living alone and nobody is claiming Carers Allowance for you.
I'm not sure where you get the £109 from, the basic rate for a single person is £73.10 with support group element of about £30.

    ESA for single person

    Basic rate = £73.10
    WRAG component = £29.05
    Support component = £36.20
Enhanced disability premium = £15.75 (awarded if you are placed in the support group)
Severe disability premium = £61.85 (basically awarded if you live alone, have no non dependants living with you and no one is receiving Carer's Allowance for you - are some exceptions to this)
  • I'm sure the basic rate is £109 a week, not £73.10?

it's six of one half a dozen of the other.

although the "basic rate" is same as the "assessment rate of ESA" [same as JSA ?] ~£80 if being technical i think ?

it's just you automatically get a "premium" if placed in "WRAG" / "support"

(i think it's called the "basic rate" only because the "premiums" between WRAG / support are different > to keep things nice and simple)

"basic rate + [whatever group you are in] = "money""

    blah blah blah

    https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/what-youll-get

You’ll normally get the assessment rate for 13 weeks after your claim. This will be:

up to £57.90 a week if you’re aged under 25
up to £73.10 a week if you’re aged 25 or over

After that, if you’re entitled to ESA, you’ll be placed in one of 2 groups and will receive:

up to £102.15 a week if you’re in the work-related activity group
up to £109.30 a week if you’re in the support group
