Not going to work well if you're doing simultaneous exchange and completion.

Don't do simultaneously then. I never have and never will.

I think people buying ours want us out ASAP to start renovating it
Are they wanting to start work before you've exchanged or completed? Where do they think you are going to live?

Don't agree to any arrangement of this sort - your solicitor will certainly tell you not to if this is proposed. After completion they can start their renovations - ie once they've become the owners.

I started packing about 4 weeks ago, we haven't exchanged yet though. Last time I moved, I waited until exchange and then had about a week to pack, which was hard work!

I just pay the removal men to pack for me. Yes, a money-saving site, but I believe a sanity-preserving-tip outweighs that. It's a stressful time anyway. Never again will I wrap 30-ish spice jars/cupboard jars individually again. Never again will I wrap every plate, every cup, every bowl, nor will I have to worry about running out of wrapping materials/boxes - it's all so expensive too! It is worth EVERY penny getting them to do it. Few hundred quid extra for them to do the lot the day before the move. They do all the wrapping, supply all the moving materials (boxes, bubblewrap, tape, paper to wrap with, and move it all. It's like magic.

I couldn't agree with hazyjo more. For our last move we had the packing service and it was utterly incredible. We were moving out of a four-bed house so had 'proper' amounts of stuff for the first time (previous moves had been small ones from flats). It would have taken us weeks of evenings/weekends to pack, and we'd have been living surrounded by boxes for all that time.

Instead, we lived in normality until the day before completion. Then four guys came in and packed EVERYTHING in about five hours. I just sat on the bed watching films on my laptop, staying out of the way and feeling extremely decadent!

Moving house costs thousands (including stamp duty). The packing service is a few hundred quid and - of all the costs of moving - is by far the money best spent. Certainly better than the £2,500 we had to pay the EA who sold our old house in a day.

I also agree! We paid movers this time, and was worth every penny. And also like you, our EA got £2400 for selling to the first viewer we had..lol

It's not so much the packing, but the de-cluttering and dumping the stuff you kept for years for no good reason. We are not particular hoarders but were downsizing and managed to fill a skip with stuff that we couldn't sell on eBay or give away and no longer wanted/needed.

I would start now, even if you don't end up moving, you will have done some major spring cleaning!
