Menorca in mid May?

Has anyone been then?

We are looking at booking first proper family holiday (Me, OH, SS, SD, baby) and want to go to the same hotel that myself and OH went to last year in Menorca. We went at start of July last year.

It was a heatwave at the time, 30 degrees plus, which I loved but OH didn't. He has a tinge of ginger about him so not a massive fan of the heat. The kids and baby wouldn't enjoy that hot either.

I've found a decent price for us mid May 2017, but I'm wondering if it won't be warm enough? Google seems to suggest 18-21 degrees. This would disappoint me I think, but suit the others!

You may want to put your own wants aside; why should the majority be uncomfortable because you want it hotter? Especially a baby (who on the whole don't like heat), who will be very unhappy with 30 degrees.

I wasn't asking about my own wants thank you very much, and said that 30degrees would be too hot for kids and baby.

I was asking for experiences of the temperature in May. I don't want to pay £2K for a holiday when it could be as warm in UK then and we can spend half of that for a UK holiday.

You didn't say that. You said "but I'm wondering if it won't be warm enough? Google seems to suggest 18-21 degrees. This would disappoint me I think, but suit the others!". You didn't mention anything about a UK holiday, or comparing temps to the UK.

The temps in may are around 18 degrees, usually dry and warm. In the UK, the temps are around 12 degrees, usually with rain.

So no, it won't be the same temp here - it may get that high but it is pretty unlikely, coupled with the rain will make for grumpy people.

Perhaps you could elaborate a little further next time as there seems to have been some confusion?

I've been to Ibiza several times in mid May and had really good weather, so Menorca will be roughly the same. Take no notice of the quoted temperatures, as they are shade temperatures and bear no resemblance to how it actually feels. It will definitely be sunbathing weather, although hotel pools might feel 'bracing' at that time of year. Also, evenings can feel a bit cool if there is a strong breeze. The good thing about May is that you can spend longer in the sun than in July when you have to seek shade for part of the day. I don't really like July and August in the Balearics. Far too humid.

I have been to Menorca several times in May - generally low twenties but much cooler at night (and far fewer mosquitoes).

Lots of wild flowers out in May so even more beautiful than summer months

    Enjoy yourselves!!
