I'd recommend getting nearly-new...I saved over 30% on my car...and that was only after a year and 4k miles - looked as new.

In order to be a true moneysaver (which is what this site is about) I'd do a search of nearly new ones from local dealers then get surfing and compare prices.

Brand new Fords and Vauxhalls are there to be had for a 20%+ discounts without much trying.

For our Aygo we used drivethedeal.com. We saw used ones (6 months old ex demos) advertised for £500 more at dealers than we paid for the new one.
  • You can get some really good bargins if you can find an ex-demonstrator. Also, ex-demonstrators often come quite well equiped as the dealer wants to sell as many of the options as possible.

You can buy a 1-yr old car at much less price in a very good condition from main dealer.

You'll have at least 2-yr manufacturer's warranty and you'll save quite a lot on brand new cars.

From your list, Yaris is the best one. But yes, it's expensive!

I suggest you also add Kia (Picanto), Hyundai (Getz) and Suzuki (Swift/Ignis) on the list as well. And if possible, go for a 5-dr car.

A well maintained 1-yr old car is as good as new car. :)
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

You're getting some reasonably accurate answers here, BUT.....

On the model ranges you mention, small cars, there is little margin for the dealers, so little dicounts for the customers.

However, if you look at what you'll save, say a few months old/pre-registered, it'll also not be a HUGE amount, compared to what you can actually buy BRAND NEW for, once you've done your homework.

Add this to any low or 0% finance, the fact you'll not have a service due, just yet, a FULL warranty, later registration probably, the choice of spec/colour YOU want, you might find it better to forget something already owned.

To get a REAL up to date list of what you'll pay http://www.honestjohn.co.uk clik on the righthand side of his site, clik This Weeks Best Deals.

    You'll find a bargain there!!

  • im sure there is a new shape fiesta due out soon,so if you can hang off until ford are throwing every toy into the old model fiesta get one of those.
really nice to drive, much better than the 206 or c1.
and hold resale value a bit better than some of the ones you mentioned, like the vauxhall corsa.
