Is there any other suggestions or things people would do in my situation?

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Weigh the costs of doing a proper job against the other possibility: moving on in a year or two and putting this one down to experience .

Don't spend serious money if the house will only suit for a limited time frame, as it's unlikely you'll see your cash back.

We put radiator foil under our polycarbonate roof panels and then clad over them with lightweight pvc cladding attached to the roofing spars. Works a treat. Warmer in winter, cooler in summer. Total coast £150

My intuition is this will not give satisfaction to OP. A problem will be the amount of light that is cut out, and the darkness in the kitchen. But OP may be happy switching on the lights more often.

Very good idea. Was it a kit or you just bought the cladding?

We just bought the cladding and cut it to length. It's very lightweight and you don't lose to much light as it reflects very well.

We've lived with a similar set up for the last 5 years though our conservatory is larger.

We've bitten the bullet and are currently in planning to replace ours with a flat roof (with roof lanterns) and hopefully get a further 2m to make a much better kitchen/diner. It's taken a lot of saving but hopefully we will get a room we can use all year round and not be freezing in winter and boiling in summer.

You lose all direct light, just get some defracted light from the sides

    Thanks all for the responses.

Think we may hold back and go for a proper extension (also want to go for an extension upstairs)

Appreciate the honesty and feedback, all really useful.

Then why not ask the whole/real question in the 1st place, what you do on level 1 totally governs what you can do at level 2 :wall::wall:
sorry simple frustration at not being able to answer what you really wanted to ask.

What sort of cost are you looking at to do that?

I have a similar setup to the OP except that I have a door between the kitchen and conservatory. I only use the conservatory as a laundry room and junk storage area as it's a icebox in winter and a sauna in the summer. It would be great to make the space more usable.
