Lossless compression for iPod

Hello,
It's taken me 2 years to use 1/3 of the storage space on my 30GB iPod video, and I see that there are now 160GB iPods out now, which has made me think that I could start storing songs with lossless compression instead of MP3. Does anyone know if any of the lossless audio compression formats other than Apple Lossless are compatible with the iPod?? (I dont use iTunes so dont want to use Apple Lossless).

No. Apple Lossless (aka ALE or ALAC) is the only one supported by iPod. However the fact that you do not use iTunes is not necessarily a barrier to you using that format as the codecs are available in other packages. For example I sometimes use dbPowerAmp which has just such a codec available.
