  • Wow, what a difference a week makes! You're really getting the ball rolling now! A sigh of relief for you, I bet.

I get feeling the pressure when it comes to holidays and Christmas. I know it's incredibly hard for you! Have you considered scaling things back slowly? So that the gifts are a little less extravagant every time? I find that this is the easiest way to cut down on costs without getting judgement etc.

Obviously the better way would be to go cold turkey on gifts but if it's going to cause friction, maybe this would be easier?

    Hi,

    Thanks for all the replies.

I have already scaled back massively with presents and the amount I allocate is for all presents throughout the year. But I do agree there is room to scale back even more!

I still feel pleased about the payments made and am not stressing as much as I thought I would about not having thousands in the savings pot.

I'm not going to give myself any specific targets with regards to debt other than:

Pay off as much as I can
Pay the ones that are nearing the end of their offers first

Work out how I can cut back on presents !

    Have a lovely day everyone

    Morning diary world ,

Last night was a hot one!

I manage to peg three washes out yesterday 👏

I don't know why but I find this time of year really hard to monitor my spends and it feels like I'm constantly spending.

I have made another £150 on eBay , do I put in savings or towards the credit cards?

I'm feeling a little stressed over my Tesco cc that comes off it's deal in October and December and then goes to 21.7%! I've really noticed this year that we are not getting offered anywhere near as many 0% deals. We can't afford to pay 21.7% interest.... any ideas?
  • Hello

I am ready your thread with interest but was shocked to see you had made no progress in all that time...then it turns out you have made a huge dent in your debts :T

Time to update your signature methinks

I don't feel like my debt has gone down from when I initially started and don't feel like I've achieved much since starting the diary work :(
  • Yes you have. You have been so brave to put that all out there for everyone to see. I know how horrible it is to see it in one place and you now have been open enough to add the family debt. So there is nothing to hide, it’s out there and it’s going down not up! That’s MASSIVE progress.

Have you told your family the true situation? Maybe they would be more supportive and understanding if you did?

I know you want to give the kids memories but getting in debt to do this is storing up problems they may pay for down the line. This happened with our Inlaws and now we are having to help them out in retirement as they are still in debt which is a stress we could do without. If you keep going you will be a fab role model to your own kids and be able to enjoy life for yourselves when they have flown the nest knowing all those holidays won’t come back to haunt them 25 years later when they are worrying about your old age. It’s the best thing you can do for your family and I wish our parents had done for us what you are trying to do for them x
