I want to stop drowning

Hi Cumbria,
It is kind of a two year tenancy but does have a clause where we can leave after a year and be served notice but our landlord is an investor and has been renting for over ten years so fingers crossed. That's also why our debt has gone up we owed money to utilities as they had us down as a couple so hadn't been charging us the right amount so we were in debit.
Have a lovely weekend too.0 -
When you have time , spreadsheet , big piece of paper and calculator. What has happened needed to be done, just dust yourself off as I said in your own time and onwards you go.
Landlord sounds ideal so hopefully you will be there for a while. How is your job going ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Job seems to be going ok, my neck has been playing up more since I started. I'm thinking my posture is the issue. Everyone seems nice and the hours are perfect.0

Hi,
Feeling a bit deflated about the debt. Thinking of a challenge I can do financially to try and help e.g spend x amount on food for the rest of the year.0 -
Now that you in your new house, would you maybe reconsider the DMP? It might not be a perfect solution, but all that psychological weight you're carrying right now might lift!0

I find sticking to a weekly food budget is easier than a monthly/annual budget. I've also started taking our entertainment money out in cash weekly to stop mindless spending on the card. It's working so far and making me think far more before spending!
I know it's easy to say, but try not to let the debt get you down. As long as you're doing what you can to pay it off (which I'm sure you are), there is no more you can do. Life's too short to allow it to make you feel sad. You can't do any more than your best.Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -

I do think about a dmp but I always worry about the moving issue plus we owe my family nearly half our debt so wonder how much of a difference it would actually make.0 -
I've been thinking a lot about summer spending money. We are going to friends over the summer but we end up spending £100 each time we go as we treat them. I really don't want to be spending this amount but not really sure how to get out of it. They do let us stay at their house for free and feed us. I just don't want to spend hundreds of pounds this summer holidays.0

Can't you just bring a food contribution with you or buy a shop when you are there? Or a couple of bottles wine/beer etc. Don't mention going out for meals and make it very clear money is tight due to moving etc. Real friends would understand.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I bring food and wine as well. I haven't mentioned it this time and they know we have debt. I was thinking of saying I'll cook a meal instead.0
