Correct TV aerial cable for this?

  • I get the impression though that you were saying a different setup which i didn't get? LoL.

It would be easier if they had a 10mtr cable with an F end & a coax end without the need for adapters.

    Something like this http://www.cablematic.co.uk/ref/TF05?gclid=CK_2iqe0lM4CFYEV0wod-S4EZg ??

    But that's only 1.5mtrs.

I've just measured up now & i need about 6mtrs to where i think we'll have the TV but in case we move it to the very end of the room then it's actually 8mtrs of cable.

So 1.5mtrs doesn't quite cut it.
  • Think (hope) i've found one suitable

    7th one down.

"Need an 'F' plug on one end and a male TV plug on the other?"

Hope so because i've ordered it now. Unless i've made a mistake it seemed to fit the bill? So bought a length at 10mtrs. Hope it works.

Oh dear, more money than sense! :rotfl:

You have paid at least ten times more than you needed to buying from that rip off company that is banned from this site.

Yeah I just noticed that for some reason it is banned. No idea why.

ATEOTD I'm not particularly interested. It was dragging on & I just want the job sorted. I was hoping for a link to something like that. An already done cable without the need for buying adopters & such.

So as time was getting on & then I saw that & said sod it I'm buying it.

Usually is the case with me I'm afraid. When things start dragging on I just say sod it & buy it as I'm not interested in things taking forever, especially when I don't have forever for them to take.

The really silly thing is that this TV aerial extension cable is simply not required, as you placed an order with Sky on the 26th!

  • Oh I did did I??

Are you 100% sure about that??

I love when people go off trying to piece things together & end up getting it wrong.

Why not just take this post for what it is - a question about this aerial?

No need to go talking about Sky & ending up being wrong.

We're all guilty of skim reading here & there I suppose.
  • Right Rubidium, i'll take you through my thought process to see if it explains things better since i'm now at home.

    * It's pretty clear i don't have a clue about any of this, so you should know that any terminology has a fair chance of throwing me off. My aim at the beginning was to get a link to a cable i need, buy it & job done.

    * At first we were thinking freeview but during this week i thought that at some point we may want Sky.
With the carpet being up, i want all cables laid down now & then it's taken care of.
That is the Sky cable (since in my view the subscription is worth it as a new customer) & the TV aerial cable.
Whether we need the TV aerial cable or not i don't know. Like i just told you - i don't know about these things. Never dealt with it before.

    * If we decide to stop our Sky subscription then do i continue to get all the freeview channels through this Sky box? Without the TV aerial cable? I don't know. I wasn't about to take any chances either. Best to get the cable down now & then it's done was my thinking, rightly or wrongly.

    * So i ask what i need. I get given adapters which help, but i want a cable that does it, i don't want adapters. So i eventually find one that does.

    * Well aware that continuous asking ends up having people pointing fingers & making fun of your lack of knowledge, i decide to buy the cable. I accepted the price & i paid. Yeah it may be 99% cheaper elsewhere, but this was dragging on a bit for what it was.

^^^ This one that comes from the Sky dish.

It was all wrapped up. Well i unravelled it today & it's nowhere near long enough for where the TV is going to be (i assume those 2 ends will connect direct in to the rear of the Sky decoder?).

    1) Will Sky just extend them to where the TV will be (or will they charge extra for this)?

    2) If no to the above, is there a Sky extension cable of some sort that i'd just buy for it?

You can extend a Sky cable using satellite grade coaxial cable, F-connects and an F-connect joiner . If the signal is good and the dish aligned properly then it will be fine. If you have a poor signal then the cable extension won't help.

But when Sky come to install they will probably put in a new cable.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • I took a look at the cable in the bedroom today. Should've done this sooner. I'm talking about the aerial in to the rear which enables us freeview.

It's considerably thinner than the aerial cable coming from the roof & the cable i bought this week (WF100), yet it still gets us the picture.

I should've picked this cable up instead as it's thinner & will be easier to snake around the living room to where it's supposed to go.

    1) what will it be?

    2) Aside from the thickness, what will be the difference between this & the WF100?
