Ex won't let me leave joint tenancy

    OP can give notice on her own which will be valid (providing sufficient notice is given). The problems will arrive if her other half doesn't sign a new tenancy and just stays on. OP and/or the ex can be chased for rent - if the ex has no money they will claim from the OP.

    Although we have both left the house and took most of our belongings,
    If this is the case then you need to remove the remaining items, and then return the keys tpo the landlord together with signed notice endigng the tenancy. That you, you have (a) terminated the tenancy by giving notice (it only requires both of you to sign if there is a specifc term in the original agreement saying so) and (b) provided vacant posession.

    If your ex moves back into the property during the notice period then you could have a problem but if he has already left then that should not be a major issue.

    The issue of his caliming you have itmes belongng to him is a private one between the two of you. It has nothingto do with the landlord or agent.
