Recommend a company that can pick up scrap car

I'm asking on behalf of my sister who does not have a mse account.

She hardly use her car and the battery has totally just died (it's never been renewed). It's not worth much anyway, it's a 2003 model vauxhall corsa. It did past its mot last December.

There are plenty of companies she's seen online offering to pick up her car and pay her, the money offer ranges from £0-50. There is very little reviews for scrap car companies. She is based in south east London (Penge).

Talking to other people at work about this today though, some colleagues have had experience of companies buying their clapped out car for more, one woman even said her old Nissan with a failed mot still collected around £300 but she can't remember what company it was! Another one said she used a comparison site but I can not find any online.

Anyone with personal experience can recommend one?

the trouble is scrap value of cars has dropped through the floor in recent years just like copper/aluminium etc

why not advertise it on eBay starting price of £25 with loads of photos showing all defects and it will sell for what its worth

If it's just the battery Euro car parts have one for around £26 at the moment. Get the car running and with 5 months MOT, maybe stick it ebay and see what happens.

£0-£50 seems about right for a scrap car. I think the £300 mentioned was either a mistake or a very old example. Even people like webuyanycar won't pay much if anything for a non running MOT failure. They looked at my wife's running and MOT'd 03 1.8 Focus and offered her about £150 so your friend won't get anything like that for a non runner.

If it's still got an MOT and it's just a case of replacing the battery, get it running and then sell it. I'm sure a scrap yard can sell you a functioning battery, and then you'll get much more for it.

I scrapped a 10 year old fiesta 4 years ago and got £175 for it and they collected it, scrapped a Rover last year (similar age) and got £20 and I had to deliver it (which I was able to do legally). As others have said, if it's got an Mot (and roadworthy), get a replacement battery and sell it on. As long as you are honest about it's condition and any known faults, nobody will complain, and they may get a cheap car to run around in for a few months or more, and you get more than scrap value.
