Infuriating sound

can someone please help, I am working away on my computer at work everday and every so often my computer makes a sound that I can only think is a notification of some kind, the only way I can describe it is the sound of someone saying 'pop pop pop' or if anyone did an impression of a goldfish doing it's open and close mouth it would be the sound it made!
Does anyone know what it is or am I going crazy?

What operating system are you using ?
Do you have a standard theme set , or a custom one ?
What programs are running / does it happen with NO programs running ?
Does this happen at set intervals ? or seem random ?
More info needed to help0 -
Hi AndyPix, Windows 10, nothing out of the ordinary usual theme setting and just seems to do it at random times0

Do you use google chrome per chance ?
If you have notifications "muted" then it will still do the sound without popping up a message in the system tray ..
My next suggestions would be to ensure your sound card drivers are propper (let me know if you need help with this)
And if it still happens, then follow instructions here to find out the culprit ..

Are you logged into Facebook Messenger on your computer or even another device? Notification for it is a 'pop'.0

OP's problem has been resolved !!
If they just muted a tab in Chrome, the plaster's been put on the wound, but we still don't know the cause - what was the rogue sound?!0
