Stolen Rolex Box - dispute with insurers

Has anyone ever come across this issue please and if so how was it resolved?

We were burgled and my partner's Rolex watch box and warranty (inside the box) were stolen. Thankfully he was wearing the watch and so we still have that. We were told, however, that without the box and warranty, each containing the watch serial number, the value of the Rolex is greatly reduced as buyers like to know they're not buying stolen goods. The insurance company deny this and say that they won't pay out for this, despite us offering them the watch in return for a new one with box and paperwork.

Can anyone advise how they got on in this situation and who's right and who's wrong?

Many thanks

Sounds like you would have been better off if the watch had been stolen too, then you could have claimed the full cost of watch, box and documentation. I suspect you won't get too far with this, but you could try looking on the FOS website to see if anyone else has ever raised a similar issue with them.

By any chance are you with a decent Insurer such as Chubb or Hiscox?

I haven't seen your policy but imagine you are covered for theft. The value of the watch hasn't been stolen. You should be covered for replacement cost of box and papers.

There are other ways to authenticate a Rolex. Even box and papers are faked these days.

They don't have to give you a new watch as the watch wasn't stolen.

I would contact Rolex and ask how much it would cost for new papers and warranty information, and that is the amount you should then claim, as this is all you'd be entitled to. Unless your policy excludes such things.
