Samsung phone - battery drain

I got a new phone a couple of weeks ago - a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. Initially the battery would easily last 3-4 days after a full charge. Then a couple of days ago I was prompted to update the system and ever since the battery is drained in less than 24 hours, even with minimal use. The battery usage feature is pretty useless as it lists the screen as the main culprit but only with 2% usage so it must be something else that's draining it. Any ideas on what to do?

A factory reset
Search the net to see if others have reported a similar issue or if there's an article about the issue.
Could be a bad app.
Hope you get it sorted.0 -
Perhaps start by turning off all services
(wireless, mobile data, location, sync etc etc)
Monitor battery drain, and then turn them on one by one and monitor again.
Have you installed any apps at around the time the problem began ?
Apps that may be trying to use location in the background would be a big battery drain (constantly trying to activate gpsd)
You could also try a more accurate/granular battery monitor such as :-

Thanks guys. No new apps and the problem started immediately after the system update so I'm strongly suspecting it's related to that. I've got the location feature switched off so that's not it either. I'll try to install the battery app and see what it says.0

Rooted my Wifes S4 mini and it gets over 4 days on the battery now instead of a nightly charge.
I uninstalled all the bloatware that came with it and removed all the google music and books etc that she never uses.
I rooted my S4 and uninstalled some of the bloatware, i do use some of it so cannot go as fars as hers and it now easily lasts over 24 hours where sometimes it would be very low at the end of the day.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just wanted to post a quick follow-up. Oddly the problem seems to have solved itself. I installed the GSam app and charged the phone to 100% overnight. At first I thought the app had actually caused a problem reading the battery usage since it stayed at 100% for several hours but as far as I can tell the phone is just using much less of the battery than before. Currently at 88% after 24 hours+.0
