    I usually give/get

    Name
    Address
    Car Reg
    Model
    Make
    Colour
    Insurance Company Name if poss

In the two non fault accidents I have had I also drew a map and wrote down what happened at the time of the accident and had them sign on the paper that is what happened and it was all their fault.

My insurer provides a book for prompting you on all these details - Priviliege.

They shouldn't have admitted anything or signed to say it was their fault but take charge and you can turn the shock into your advantage.

In one I also gave the other persons car details to the land owner of the wall they ran into after hitting me.

Time the accident was reported to the police as well, didn't attend as there were no injuries but write it all down.

You could even go as far as asking for Photo ID from the person to prove who they are. If they start refusing, alarm bells should ring and you really need to get the police there before they try to make off.

Employers details in the case of company vehicles. Be aware the driver may be employed by an agency but the vehicle owned and insured by the agencies client. Make sure you get the latter.

Photos on camera phone, disposable or digital camera are also a big help.

Details of any passengers in the other vehicle, particularly if the accident is your fault. Have dealt with cases where our driver swore blind there was only the driver in the other vehicle yet they were claiming injuries to 3 or 4 passengers.
