Thank you - that was our first thought too. We got the house cleaned on 17 and the landlady (and the estate agent) visited the property on 22 and reported that there is dust. We don't know if following the checkout inspection (on 18), if the person closed all the windows... so we have raised the point that they should not have done a second inspection on their own.

Anyway, we have now told them that we want them to get back to us soon about what they intend to deduct and if we think that's unreasonable, we will claim our deposit through DPS.

Why are you giving them any extra time?

I thought it would support our case if we tried to resolve the dispute on our own. We have heard from the agents that the LL is asking for £500 (in addition to the £160 we have already spent on end of tenancy cleaning). So I wanted to claim for our deposit. But it looks like we cannot claim the deposit, but can only raise a dispute (https://www.tenancydepositscheme.com/resources/files/What%20is%20the%20Tenancy%20Deposit%20Scheme.pdf).

    Am I missing something?

It's the same thing. Raising a dispute is how you claim for your deposit.

    Ok. Thank you, both!

It would be good to hear from someone that we are not being unreasonable in refusing to pay around £660 to clean a 2 bed 1.5 bath house (with no damages) :)
