Multiple STB's on Freesat?

HI all.

My parents own a B&B and the area they are in doesn't receive Freeview yet, so I've been telling them about this Freesat thing.

They seem really interested in it, and have started wondering if they could install it into every room so the guests could have more variety of channels too.

Does anyone know if it's possible to connect more than one Freesat STB to one dish, and is so how many can be connected?

Or if anyone knows of any other tricks & tips that could achieve the same results that'd be great too!

Thanks in advance!

J

  • im not the worlds biggest expert on this but i think you need a multi lnb , insteda of 1 lumb in front of your dish theres a few.But i beleive you will still need one per box to bypass having to give uncle rupert his pound of flesh for a multiroom sub and then the business end wad that goes with it for the services.
  • You only need to go down the Multiroom route if you want to offer the guests Sky subscription channels - and I suspect the rules and costs are different for commercial use.

You really need to get quotes from specialist installers if you want more than three or four receivers as things can get complicated. If you're in the Yorkshire area the owner of https://www.wrightsaerials.tv posts in several forums
(though not this one as far as i know) and seems to be well-respected by his peers.

How many rooms are in the B&B??

Octo-LNBs are freely available - 8 feeds to standard set top boxes.

For more it will be probably multiple dishes of the same setup or specialist time.

The forums on www.satellites.co.uk might be of use.

Sky+ and Sky HD take 2 feeds each.

    Thanks for the replies!

The B&B has 7 rooms that are rented out for guests and they have their own private flat on the top floor, so we'll be looking at about 8 STB's, but maybe 9 as I may be building them a media centre for Christmas.

So would it just be a case of attaching an octo-LNB to the dish that comes with the Freesat package, or is it easier to just get down Maplins and buy a seperate dish altogether?

Is it possible to buy extra STB's on their own?

Well, I've just found pretty much everything I need at Maplins!

Thanks very much all for the replies, I'd never have known what to look for otherwise.

Now all I have to do is find the best price...
