The new Metod range is designed to be self-fitted. They have a new rail which goes on the wall and the units click onto it.
Speaking from experience, there is no "just" to it - unless you have perfectly straight walls. If you don't you'll spend a lot of time getting the rail to hang the right difference off the wall, and be making sure it doesn't twist along its length when tightened up. Its a great idea, but does take time to get right.
When we were in Ikea, the kitchen guy had just changed all of the drawers in the display area. He put together and fitted forty drawers in just over an hour.
I smell a porkie here. Each drawer typically has seven screws to make the drawer box, and then a further six screws to attach the rails inside the cabinet. Lets say he meant 40 in 70 minutes - that's one drawer and drawer front unpacked, constructed and fitted in 105 seconds... It took me several evenings to fit the 23 in my kitchen. I also had a prior evening drilling and fitting the handles, and a couple of tip runs to get rid of the mountains of cardboard!

That's the beauty of wood...slight scratches dents dinks don't look out of place because its wood....and very easy to lightly sand and oil every couple of years
As long as they have a good couple of coats of oil before fitting they are fine....just go for a hard wood...we chose "Iroko"

I think I'm just fussy tbh! We have wooden floors and they're gorgeous but obviously they're starting to get dented now they've been down for a while and it drives me mad! I sometimes think we should have gone for laminate but they look so much nicer!

You could well be right about the drawers. Time will tell! I will be putting them together next week.
As for the rails for the units, we are lucky that they will be going onto brand new walls so hopefully should be straightforward. Having lived in previously wonky places, I can imagine how difficult it would be with wonky walls.

It's fine having a wall mounted rail for the units to click into provided that the wall and floor are both perfectly level and totally square to each other, something that is often not the case.

Not a problem with the Ikea rail and feet as both are adjustable.

We have just fitted an ikea kitchen ourselves and found the rail brilliant. The units hook over it and we found it much easier and better than fixing them to the wall directly as as I said even when the rail is fixed to the wall it is adjustable.

We fitted our ikea kitchen in a day and a half. Two tall cupboards, cooker housing, two drawer sets, two corner units with a turnstile and a pull out shelf, pull out larder, dishwasher and sink plus 8 top cupboards

We bought the granite worktop and splash back else where

Was really pretty easy. The hardest job was working out how the dish washer door fitted

Plumber and electrician had no problems working with it.
