Car insurance

Hello
New in this forum, so please be patient. Question regarding car insurance. We have recently bought house and moved into the new area, but very close to our old house, nothing has been significantly changed, we still have a parking and etc. We have a car and we have paid car insurance about £45 each month. However after moving house we have to pay £80 now. is that the area which is affecting our policy so much or it's just because we are paying monthly and our yearly policy coming to the end soon and they've just spread that extra payments to the rest of the months? we have always stayed with the same company (Octagon), is that cheaper to check prices and change every year?

No harm in looking if there's anything cheaper out so definitely get that done and yes when it comes to renewal always check to see your not paying more than you should.

I can't answer the rest of your post.

It's always stopped me to look for something cheaper as always have to pay 2-3 month in advance, but now I am starting to think that for the whole year I would save more. I think it can be the thing the've added to my policy commuting to work (as before for some reason it wasn't there) and it's affected the price, is it really important thing? I mean if I have something on the way to my workplace I won't get an insurance paid? How they will know, where I was going? We had already accident after work and we still have been paid (somebody driven into our back).

The accident you had would have been paid for by the third party insurer ultimately.

You are driving uninsured if you use your car for commuting but don't have commuting cover.

Have an accident on the way to work and they will soon cancel your insurance possibly leaving you with a large bill, One forum i use they had a bill for £16,000 for a fairly minor accident.

I'm not going to cancel that option, just interesting how they will find out, where I was driving? ))

Simple - they will ask you!

(If they suspected you were commuting uninsured they would investigate your response)

As above ask you where you were going and then find out where you work and if you were at work that day and at what time.

It wont take them long to get the truth.

What if the policy had to come to the scene? One of the first things they might ask is where are you going, which would be quite obvious depending how you're dressed, time of day, direction you are headed.

As above, even if not, insurers will be able to get to the bottom of this rather easily.

In terms of your address, it won't be about the amount of payments you have left, they will charge a pro-rata premium anyway so the monthly payments should stay round about in line with the increased premium for the remaining term.

If it's gone up that much it must be something to do with the area. Claims history in that region could be worse than where you were (even if you didn't move far, these ratings are quite precise).

Another thing I have found and usually mention is if you are not yet on the electoral register then sometimes their background checks won't match up and this can affect the premium.

The only thing you could do is challenge it by asking them for the difference in their area ratings or a breakdown of their calculations to see if there are any obvious discrepancies, or alternatively look for another insurer.

Insurers usually find out about this sort of thing because their customers tell them. "Where were you going sir?" "I was on my way to work... no, hang on, I mean the shops." Or people who have no commuting or business cover shout down the phone at them "No, you have to repair my car faster than that - I need it for work!".

See also the number of people who declare no accidents, then phone up to report one and say in passing "I just can't believe it's happened again so soon".

The lies we tell are easily forgotten. It takes no special effort to remember the truth.
