Item still not paid for since June

Hi, advice needed please as what to do next.

I sold an item of furniture on 12th June which still has not been paid for. It's now over the 30 days so I am unable to cancel.
I send reminders but all I get is due to death in family etc..... However I notice from feedback left for them that this person has been buying/selling since they won my item.

Thanks in advance

  • I've NEVER waited that long and doubt there's many regulars on here that have either, if after the standard 3 day period (correct timescale if wrong plz) someone has not paid, its straight to an open case as far as i'm concerned, why on earth did you not act earlier?
  • Because within that 3 days there had 'been a death' in the persons family

  • thats fair enough but then i'd give it no more than a week on top of that!

sold on 12 june.. death on 14th/15th... you should have acted decisively by the 22nd june.

anyway when you view the item under your "sold items" list in my ebay what options does it give you in the drop-down list?

I'd have sent an email and upon hearing of a death in the family would have done a 'sorry for your loss, I can start the cancellation process of you order if you wish, or you can arrange payment etc. How would you like to proceed?' If they didn't respond or they didn't want to cancel and still made no move to pay etc. I would report as non paying.

You can ring Ebay and ask them to manually credit the FVF's, perhaps ask them to review the messages and they may also be able to cancel the transaction. Next time don't be so gullible.

I normally wait much longer for payment than most sellers would, but never wait more than two weeks. Death in the family, rushed to hospital, cards been stolen, child bid on it are the many excuses which you hear a lot when you regularly sell on Ebay. All of them are difficult to deal with as while you may not believe them, it is difficult to accuse them.

As above, contact Ebay. They will lecture you about opening unpaid cases but if you get the right the person, they should refund your fees. Make sure you block the person so you do not have to deal with them again.
