White or stained skirting/trim

May not be the easy option though. When we had to remove some really old skirting off a couple of walls there were big gaps left behind them and a fair amount of plaster came off too. I'd just paint them.
We had stained skirting in a previous property and it really looked dated. So much fresher once painted.
