Singapore Airlines

Hi

In a tricky situation with Singapore Airlines..........as a treat for my wife (who spent 10 yrs on dialysis) had a kidney for 2yrs (only be ok for last 10mths) we decided to fly back Business Class (due to the highly rated awards etc).

Melbourne to Singapore (2 night stopover and hotel already paid for) and then Singapore back to Manchester via Munich.

However Singapore Airlines emailed and said your flight from Melbourne to Singapore has changed by 5 mins (fine not a problem)

However the flight from Singapore to Manchester on 7th Dec 2310 is now 0235 on 7th Dec. So we face problem of losing a luxury night in hotel and come home or delay till 9th Dec 0235am (but cant due to medical appointment on 9th Dec).

Emailed Singapore and got told to be patient someone will ring, tweeted and they told me to ring Manchester, rang manchester and got sent to an Indian Call Centre and computer says no type replies.

Here are my options so far (hung up as he wasnt listening in the end, now need advice)
  1. take 0235am flight and lose out on luxury night in Singapore without any compensation etc, may be possible to rearrange for a fee, but it was advanced deal
  2. go on 9th Dec to Manchester (cant due to Doctors on 9th and dog sitter)
  3. Fly 2355 on 8th Dec to Amsterdam but then fly Economy to Manchester with KLM via SA, but facing the prospect of my last image being a plane full of stag/hen do's on way back to daunting. I asked for compensation for you not being able to complete the full journey in Business, kept saying the same options
  4. get a full refund and rearrange it all with differing airlines and since Brexit it will cost even more due to the exchange rates.
I am really angry, frustrated, as this was all done with one airline to avoid any aggravation. But since they decide to change their flights to direct to Manchester, I am expected to be happy with the options and no offer of compensation for the inconvenience.

Any advice be welcomed, or any contact details to deal with some that isn't an Indian call centre operative (there email is also run from there). I don't fly Business Class ever, so I am upset that this is the way they operate.

Thanks in advance (and this is my first post, so go easy please).

Steve

I assume that you booked the hotel independently rather than through Singapore Airlines (if they even do hotel booking). If so then their responsibility is to get you to your destination, which they are doing. If you do get anything from them it'll be a goodwill gesture rather than because they have to do it. Flights booked many months in advance are always subject to change, and quite often are changed for operational reasons.

PS Flights from Amsterdam are far more likely to be full of business people than stag/hen parties.

    Especially mid-week
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I'd take the AMS option, that last sector is very short and I've never had problems with stag parties on that route.

Alternatively call the hospital and see if you can reschedule? It's five months away so shouldn't be too difficult.
  • I'd go with the Amsterdam option. It looks like that could be on the new Airbus A350 so brand new plane, therefore I'd expect something slightly better than you'd get on the 777 to Manchester. The flight back from Amsterdam to Manchester will be really quick, by the time you've reached altitude you'll be ready to start the descent.

Don't they have any flights at sensible times to Birmingham, or even Heathrow?
