I doubt that there's a high correlation between UK residential property prices and something like the Blackrock global commercial property REIT.

I agree, I was simply pointing out a POV that many peoples largest investment is in property, indeed a very concentrated sector at that, and that many regard that as enough.

I don't, as I say I am probably over invested in it (forgetting my house) and wil be looking to wind it down a little. But I still can appreciate that position even if it's contrary to my practice.

Many people downsize later in life.
    That's what I said
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)
  • Is this the fund people are referring to?
    https://www.blackrock.com/uk/individual/products/229498/

Are there any like for like alternatives? Any other global property funds I look at seem to have at least double the ongoing charges.

Yes and it's the one referred to in the later edition of the book as a possible property fund.

A couple of REIT ETFs that may be worth looking at as alternatives are iShares FTSE EPRA/NAREIT Developed Market Property ETF (IWDP) and iShares FTSE EPRA/NAREIT UK Property ETF (IUKP).
  • Thanks for the confirmation coyrls.
Thanks Webnibbler, those do look like interesting alternatives, I'll be sure to check those out. Always good to be able to compare similar-ish funds with each other.

Sorry to diversify somewhat from the property aspect of the thread but what do you peeps think about recovery funds?
The book was talking these up & on the strength of this I've got 10% in a recovery fund.
It's hardly pulled trees up compared to others but I'm happy to sit & wait till it's times comes....Unless I'm missing something.

They are a fund that fits a certain part of the economic cycle. Although not so good at the wrong time.

    Thanks Dunstonh,

That's put my mind at rest.
I'm happy for the cycle to come round for this to have its day rather than thinking I've backed a pup!!!

The 3rd edition of the book does not recommend commodities futures.
