Around the world trip!?

Hi guys, in November this year me and one of my friends from uni are going to go traveling together. Most likely London to Bangkok, then an indo china loop back to Bangkok before flying to Melbourne working our way down to Sydney and then flying to LA, after that get a greyhound bus across US to NY before flying back to London. I was just wondering if you could give us any advice on where to visit and how to do the trip as cheap as possible? I have looked at companies, STA, Global Village, travel nation etc who do you think it would be best to go with or how to make are way around. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
