uPVC Window not locking

Hi all,

I have a problem with my upvc window not being able to lock.

This is because the bits of metal attached to the window ('cam' I think?) don't fit in the other bit of metal on the window frame ('keep' I think?).

I have attached the pictures below.

When I say they do not fit, the 'cams?' are too high and don't connect properly and they need to be lowered.

Do I just adjust the 'cam?' with a screwdriver to lower it? I gave it a go and did several turns but it didn't seem to move at all.

Not sure about the cam adjustment. Mainly because I don't think I've have any that were adjustable.

My first thought was are the hinges seizing? It can cause the window to not seat correctly into the frame and the lock(s) don't line up properly.
If it's that, try a bit of oil on the joints and "work" the hinges, if not, it's back to the cams . .

Edit: If all fails, a bodge would be to pack/ lift the keep plate a little? ;)

Does the window need to move nearer to the keep plate? If so is there any adjustment of the hinge position, screws through slots, that sort of thing? That sorted out mine.

Yes, it's as if the window needs to move down a bit so the catches fit into the keep plate. I'm not sure how long it's been like this as we've only recently moved into the place.

    The mechanism:

    Any ideas?

The cam adjustment is usually only an offset to increase or decrease how tightly the window seals when closed. You'll have to loosen the screws on the hinge lower the sash so the the cam locates in the keeper, 2-3mm will probably be enough. Possibly someone fitted new hinges and set them to high.
