Hassle trying to close M&S credit card

In short, can you do this via their messaging service or am i going to have to do it via post now?

Just called up to close the account since the 0% on purchases offer has ended for me.

I knew I was in trouble the moment i heard the person on the other end of the line ... clearly English wasn't their first language.

So after numerous "can you repeat that please" as i tried working out what they were saying we got to the verifying address stage.

I had moved address but my previous one was my mothers. I couldn't remember if i had updated the address or not so i told her this & then asked if it was my address (which i gave).

Can i have your address.

So i repeated that it may be one of the two & gave mine again.

I need your address.

So this time i gave the other one (my mothers).

Your address, i need your address.

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

So after a bit more time the ladies lightbulb comes on & we make it past that stage.

So then she asks if i wish to update my address.

No i don't (since there's no point as i'm going to close the account regardless) - i just wish to close the account.

Now bear in mind i didn't have any snotty tone of voice here. Not even a "oh you may think you didn't but you did".

So i tell her i only wish to close the account ............. she hangs up on me!!

If she thinks that's going to get me to stay then she can forget it!!

Sounds to me you had attitude with the advisor begin with because her first language was not English. I have dealt with many overseas contact centres and in my experience the majority of staff are very professional and helpful. However like with some customers you always get the snotty ones and in my view you were that customer.

In my view you're an idiot.

Why? I have no evidence. Nothing at all other than i just came out & said it. Which is exactly what you just did there with me. You wasn't there but because i would've preferred an English person on the phone you automatically decided that i started getting an attitude with the person.

The important thing here is - instead of coming in & being helpful, you decided to post in with a worthless post of no help to anybody. Yeah, nice one!

& because i'm responding like this, it will be further 'evidence' to you that i must've surely been ranting & raving on that phone & probably giving them death threats too no doubt?!

Or how about trying this one.....

What about, now hang on a minute, just entertain this for a second.....what about the possibility that i would've preferred someone who spoke good English. NOTE: PREFERRED, not required & anyone else can burn in hell, but just simply preferred. When i found that it wasn't the case, i just thought ok well this is going to include a few can you repeat that pleases but so be it?

But no, that isn't possible. In your 'view' (what were you using to view me by the way to be able to say that without any proof?) i, despite saying i wasn't, was 'snotty'.

    You're a funny person.

I feel sorry for anyone in court if you're ever doing jury service!!!

    GUILTY!

But we haven't even heard the evidence.

I don't need to. That person is guilty, i just know it!! :rotfl::rotfl:

As a side note: the 'majority' is irrelevant.
The majority of people are not murderers ... but we have plenty of those around.
The majority of people on this forum are helpful ... but then there's you & that post.

    Majority does not mean anything.

I don't know how M & S work but earlier this week I used Santander's secure message service to ask how to close my credit card account (as they have put the fees up it no longer suits me). They responded within 24 hours and said as the balance was zero they could activate that following secure message confirmation. I sent confirmation and account was closed same day. I hardly ever use telephone helpdesk if I can use secure messaging as I have found most banks very good at responding quickly - even if they do say that I have to write in. If I were you I would raise a query via message service.

I'd phone again at a different time. Some times you get a different call centre based on the time of the day.

I don't understand how someone could have the wrong address on their credit card.

If in doubt, write them a letter (asked it be closed) and you'll save yourself alot of hassle.
