I need to find out how much a 1200watt appliance will use in ten minutes. I have looked up a method but am stuck when it comes to multiplying 12kw by 1/6. Once I have that I have to multiply it by the price per unit (5.20). Although I can budget brilliantly, I can't multiply 12kw by 1/6:eek:

1.2 units of electricty per hour
So in 10 minutes it will use 1/6th of this
Which is .2 - or 1/5th of a unit
At 5.2p/kWH (seems cheap!! I thought it was 2-4x that) it would be 1.04p for 10 minutes0 -
Maybe I should explain a bit further:
1200watts/hour = 1.2kWH
1kWH = 1 unit on your meter
1.2 divided by 1/6 is "6 into 1.2" which is 0.2
0.2 is 1/5th0
