Benefits and accommodation

You need to go through the living together as man and wife criteria very carefully, and (hopefully) establish that this does not apply. Prepare your evidence so you can counter any DWP / HMRC decision to the contrary. Your local CAB may be able to help you appeal a DWP living together as man and wife decision.[/QUOTE]
Sometimes....people are living together as man and wife, CAB must be fed up with having to support people who are trying to get one over on the benefits agencies...0 -

It is very unlikely that the local CAB would "support people who are trying to get one over....".
All clients would, of course, be made aware of their rights and responsibilities.
If the client is to be helped with an appeal of a benefit decision, then an assessment would be made of the client's abilities, together with the strength of their case.
All CAB's face far more demand on their service, than they can meet. ( Remember that CAB's are mainly staffed by volunteers, and each CAB must source its own funding to survive as an advice charity).
If a client does not have a case, they would not be assigned a caseworker.
If a client has a good case to put before a tribunal, and is clearly capable of making that case, they would be given self-help.
If the client has a good case, but is vulnerable (learning difficulties, poor mental health, etc) and would struggle to attend / put their case to a tribunal ; then that is when a caseworker (if their CAB has one) would support the client and prepare the tribunal submissions.
Given the demands on their time, a caseworker would not prepare a tribunal submission which did not have merit. (And, of course, a mertit-less submission would only devalue the CAB's standing with the tribunal judges.)Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -

You might not be aware that any editing is date stamped. It's clear that you've just changed your opening post to add the word theoretical (twice!).
(Although I wouldn't worry about being tracked online by the DWP or your local authority - that would happen very rarely.)0 -

Agree with this.
The mail issue (so therefore having two individuals financial footprints traceable at the address) is much more pertinent.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
Hi,
I claim benefits and they gave me a form to sign whether I live alone or not and also that I should inform them if this changes. For some days I may theoretically accommodate a friend without getting any rent. He also theoretically may have his mails sent here (from banks, etc) as he is may be between addresses. Will I have any problem with my benefits because of that? What should I do?This thread is a theoretical case, I wanted to know how one can handle it, it case it happens.Laugh out loud
The edits to the OP are a bit blatant. :rotfl:0 -

I don't know who you're trying to fool with the changes you've made to your original post, but the responses you've had will not change.

In any situation like this you need to be open and honest with benefits agencies and they will make deductions as necessary.
My sister came to live with me for about six weeks when her marriage ended. I notified the various agencies; the only ones that needed to change anything were the local council (housing and council tax benefit); they reduced the amount they gave me and my sister paid me the difference. When she moved out again I notified them and they put everything back to the original rates. It was all very simple and easy to do.
If they need to make a reduction then your friend simply needs to give you any money you lose so that you aren't out of pocket. If he won't do that then I'd suggest telling him to find somewhere else to stay.0
