Can you activate Capital One cards online now ?

Or is it still only via the telephone number ?

Friend asked me and I said I didn't know I did mine via the telephone.
Thanks
JG

  • Telephone only still...

Not sure why, as they don't even do the PPI hard sell like other companies - it's automated!

    Just for follow through

Apparently after setting up the account online there was an option to activate the card and it was activated online ?

Maybe this option only appears when the activation line is closed ?

    Must be a new service.
    Thanks

  • If the card was applied for online there isn't any 'setting up' to be done - the account is made live a long time before the card actually arrives. I could log in and see my credit limit, payment dates etc etc. Cap1 email twice with a username & temp password. Then you're straight in. Nothing regarding activation at all for mine.

The only sticker on my card gave a 0800 number, which is only open for limit periods each day (something like 07:30 - 21:00 Mon to Fri & 08:30 - 17:00 sat).

There was no mention at all of website activation, and I've only had my card just over a week.

Would be interesting to see what happens if you phone at a time when the line is closed, and then put in a card number which is pending activation - maybe that tells you to go to the website, which (after you've phoned) is going to be annoying!

If I qualify for another card in 2 months I'll try it!
