Reclaiming extended warranty

Approximately 5 or 6 years ago we purchased a fridge freezer and took out an extended warranty paying a fixed sum each month for the extended warranty. The fridge freezer was faulty from day one (no power to it) and the store were unable to obtain the same make and model as a replacement so we got a full refund and purchased elsewhere.
The fridge freezer which was purchased elsewhere has recently developed a fault and we have attempted to claim on the extended warranty we though we took out on this one. Unfortunately the store never put the extended warranty through and we have been paying the initial store for an extended warranty on a fridge freezer we no longer have and which was returned.
Where do we stand in obtaining a refund on this extended warranty as the store neglected to cancel it although they did refund the friend freezer in full.

Write a letter of complaint to them (get free proof of posting from the PO, don't send recorded) but do it politely and ask them to either do the warranty repair as a gesture of goodwill or refund.
If they get arsey you can "blackmail" them by complaining on Facebook/Twitter or on of those newspaper finance problem pages and see if that kicks them into action.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
