Cancelling with Equifax

IMO this company is very unethical. There is nowhere to cancel online, just a phone number that never gets answered and no contact email either. It's clearly designed to make it very difficult to cancel but I managed it today so I hope this advice helps!
Afer ages searching I finally found an email address which is: customer.care@equifax.com. I wrote:
Dear Sirs
I am writing to request the closure of my account, details below:
Mr ***
Address
Ref No. ********
Please Note: I will not be telephoning you to cancel and as email is a legally acceptable form of correspondence, I expect the cancellation to be actioned without further contact from yourselves requesting me to do so.
I will however, also be following this up with a posted letter.
They of course replied with 'sorry we cant help with this request, you need to telephone' to which my reply was 'what do you mean you can't help? you're customer service aren't you?' Within minutes I had an email saying 'your account has been cancelled'
I hope this helps anyone else who has been going round in circles trying to cancel :rotfl:
