£9.50 holidays any good?

hi has anyone been on the £9.50 holidays provided by the sun?if yes is there any hidden charges?
also if some of the people on the list are unable to turn up can the others on the list go without them.
i am thinking of going on one of these holidays but unsure about them thanks

  • We've been on a few. There are extra charges depending on where you go, these can include entertainment passes and gas and electric, usually it tells you in the blurb.

They never really check the names, I reckon the only time you would have problems would be if they were expecting a mixed age group and a group of teenagers/youn adults turned up. In the main these are family orientated Parks and they do not accept young groups

we have been on the sun holidays twice so far,to France

    very good value :)

if you are wanting school hols then yes, they are very much worth it and so much cheaper :money:

but if you want to go during term time, its worth seeing how much it would be to go through the site directly.

people have reported its often cheaper than the sun, once you factor in the service charge & entertainments passes etc

no "hidden" charges really,as it states how much £s per person for enttertainments passes for the duration of the holiday plus service charges / linen hire etc

you can bring your own linen if you wish and if only using the site as a base, you dont have to purchase the entertainments passes either :)

these extra costs are payable to the site not the sun, once you have confirmation through

We've been on many of these holidays and always had a good time.

I found them great value for money. Yes there is certain extras such as service charges, entertainment passes and linen hire charge, however the only complusory extra charge is the service charge (on some dates at certain parks these are free) as stated in the paper. You can take your own bed linen and you don't need to buy the entertainment passes if you don't wish to use the entertainment.

We normally take our own linen (pillows and duvets are provides foc) and it depends on the park whether we buy the entertainment passes. The holiday normally cost approx £60 for four nights mon-fri for 4 of us, I think this is great value.

I guess you can not complain about value for money? You will always hear good and bad stories about these trips ... I think there was a thread on the vent board last year about someone who had problems and many people said that they had done OK by it. Just do your homework, make sure you know what is and is not included (holidays will be £9.50 for a reason). And remember to keep everything in perspective ... it was only £9.50.

I am about to try and book one of the sun holidays at half term. Can anyone tell me, if the holidays I want are not available, will the Sun return my cheque?

    Thanks

we did one of these last year. as a cheap base for a week away it couldnt be beaten, but the standard of the accommodation was lacklustre, and the 'entertainment' was unusable because so many people in there were chainsmoking that it was impossible to breathe  obviously with the new smoking laws that wouldnt be such an issue.

in terms of moneysaving, because they are largely self catering, you can save money by taking the non perishable stuff with you. also take things like loo roll and washing up liquid, as they arent normally provided.

i would say do your research before you go (we didnt realise that our park was so far away from civilisation for example) but on the whole its a great cheap week away.

I went on an October one with my family and a friends family. Its seems we were able to pay the same as her even though we had no vouchers.
It was Hagerston Castle (sorry spelling) it was awful. Nothing was open except the horse riding (expensive) you had to buy a pass for the entertainment and the centre because thats all there was to do. There were a lot of machines for the kids to spend money on.
It turned out a very expensive holiday.

That aside if it were school holiday time I'm sure it would have been cheap and more would have been open.

Although not HIDDEN charges you do have to pay for gas, electric, passes, linen etc as stated. This is all included if you book direct so weigh up the cost it might not be much of a saving.
