Hi all,

New to the forum but not the website, used it for years for tips etc and get weekly newsletter too, I was wondering something, I used the eligibility calculator to check some cards for eligibility for balance transfers and when it was through it gave me a list of cards which all said accepted but underneath said "you are not eligible for this card" (which I presumed to be as I am unemployed at the moment and only on about 4k+ a year), I also received the email but that only had the accepted parts of the cards, I was concerned about actually applying for one in case I was not eligible and it affected my overall credit score, I did get the credit card while unemployed and as this was the case I'm not entirely sure if I qualify for the said cards or not.

Any info will be very appreciated.
Great site and forum by the way. :T

You can apply for a card, it won't affect your score as no 1 but you can see it.

Thanks a lot for quick response, I was lead to believe if you apply for credit and get refused it affects your credit score, also I was told checking your credit score can affect it somehow, do you happen to know if this is true ?.

    Many thanks once again.

Applying for a credit card that gets declined will hurt your credit score but if you do the eligibility checker and it tells you he percentage of chance you have at getting it, it doesn't hurt your score if you don't apply for them if you just look at what your eligible for
Apply for things you have a 90%+ chance with

Checking your credit score won't lower it either

Just noticed one of them said "No eligibility score" does that mean they don't use a score rating for that one, it was the Tesco - 21 months 0% with NO fee card ?.

The eligibility calculator is just a guide. The score is arbitrary. It's still pretty much a flip of the coin when you apply.
It would do you better to be following the tips for boosting your credit history. As long as you do the 'right things', your credit history will build up gradually.
