Travel Insurance - Missed departure

We booked a flight of Manchester - Denver (via LHR). The flight from Manchester was delayed by and hour meaning we were bumped off the LHR-Denver flight. Another flight was rearranged for 24hrs later.
However, we were on a road trip and had car hire booked and some hotels.
The car hire could not be rearranged and we lost deposits on two hotels. (total £425)
Can we claim on the missed departure section of our policy?

See if its covered by reading the policy docs on delayed departure cover - or just make a claim and take it from their reply0

What kind of travel insurance did you take out and with whom? (e.g. Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.)0

They're asking as the EXACT wording on your cover makes a massive difference.
Most policies would not cover you as they cover you for the final flight out of the UK not for internal flights within the UK0 -

It's a silver policy. Atlas insurance.
The flight ticket was one ticket (via LHR). This would be for the final flight out of the UK.
Annoying thing is, we were at the gate 20mins before departure. 25% of other travellers were stood queuing behind us. BA just assumed we wouldnt make the gateLoved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Yeah that is it. I guess I naively thought that out of pocket expenses would also have been covered.
A bit annoyed really as like I said, we were at the gate in time for boarding. BA gate staff said they didn't expect us to get there on time.
Only option is to try and get BA to pay out.May even get some free legal adviceLoved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
I am not sure you have a claim under the policy. The delayed departure cover is about covering a hotel while you are waiting for rearranged flight.
I can't see any cover for missed accommodation due to outgoing flight delays.
Where you are going on a holiday which is not part of a package arrangement, there are policies which include an option called ' independent travellers'. This i believe is provided by Axa and covers missed accommodation, missed booked activities, where you have been delayed in getting to a destination. This is something to look at for future trips. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums.
