16 year old student and work?

Asking for a friend, son is 16 going on to 6th form this autumn, he's applied for a Saturday job and hopefully more hours when he can fit them around studying..... mother gets WT/CT and HB, does she need to declare son's earnings? Thank you.

Not for tax credits. Can't answer for HB

The non dependent has to be 18 yrs old for deductions from HB to happen.

No problem if he works less than 24 hours a week.

If in full time non advanced education he can work as many hours as he likes (for TC purposes)

I was referring to CB rules which are also a gateway to other child based benefits.

That isn't the CB rules either.

If the child is in full time non-advanced education they can work as many hours as they wish.
