Repair Credit Score

Hi,

I have read that your credit score can be repaired within 6 months if you make regular small payments per week to your creditors others say upto 2 years to get from 0 to 950+

Anyone repaired there credit if so how long has it taken and what methods did they use?

Thanks.

    What you've read is gibberish.

Get on the electoral roll, get a credit card, spend and pay in full each month.

    Ignore the score.

    No it's not.

What do your credit files show? Not the score - the information on it?

    Defaults? CCJs? Missed payments?

Your credit score is decided by lenders based on the information in your application and your credit history. What you are doing is building a credit history which shows you are a good risk.

How long it takes depends on where you're applying. Going from financial untouchable in 2008 with all defaults I got a Vanquis card after 6 months, an Aqua card after a year, prime cards MBNA and Lloyds after 6 years when the defaults were fully paid and dropped off my credit history and both American Express CC and green charge card after 7 years.

I didn't really push the applications though and I could probably have done it faster if I had applied for easier to get CC such as those from Creation. However I was absolutely amazed when I got both an Amex CC and charge card just a month apart.

Methods were as you see on MSE: As well as CCs described above, contract mobile phone, catalogue J.D. Williams, Argos card, etc.

    Good luck.

You do start a lot of threads with this. I suggest you should stop reading as it does you no good.

It would help if you gave us a link to what you read and where you read it Whambam. There are people out there who prey on desperate people. If you are really struggling to get any financial products then many of the places that say they can help may just take more money from you, rather than provide credit.

You are referring to regular small payments to your creditors. Are these accounts which have defaulted? If so it will take more than 6 months to get back to any sort of financial health and 6 years from the default dates before the impact is removed altogether.

There are no quick fixes. Anything which will help is based on proving your reliability at paying things back.
