Depends entirely on the bank, some will allow it, some won't, some have individual transaction and daily limits. There is no one answer so anyone trying to give one shows that they really don't understand the system. Some general information is available here, but for the absolute up to date position it is best to consult the website of the bank that is initiating the transfer, or contact them direct and hope that the person who responds knows the answer - not a given in my experience.

Another thing to watch out for if you are doing the transfers on line... be ABSOLUTELY sure about the sort code and account number you are transferring to.
If setting up a new transfer for a significant amount of money I would always transfer (say) £10 first, check that arrives in the account and then reuse the details from the first transfer to do the larger transfer.
If you mistype the account details it will not be easy to recover.0
