oxfordmark, if you eventually go the soak away route then don't forget to inform your water/sewerage company so you can get a discount.0

May be worth calling anyway. Couldn't hurt to find out if you can get a discount for 50% of your roof water going to soak away.0 -
Update:
There is no drain serving the down-pipe. So ask he thinks this is causing the damp issue, he will be doing the necessary work...Oxfordmark

Worth checking as you can get the water supplier to lower your bill a bit.0 -
Where do we stand?
The works starting tomorrow. I asked for 3 quotes this hasnt been done. I have asked for a breadown of the costs his contractor will be charging, he cant give anything until the works done and says he will ask for 50% of the work.Oxfordmark

So the work was done a few weeks ago, we were not around as we were on holiday. There are no signs of any paving being taken up.
We have just received an invoice for £300 of what looks like a £1300 job. No invoice, nothing accompanying it.
Before we pay, should we ask for a copy of the invoice and photos of the work. After all, if this is shared work we need to know what's happened for future,m?Oxfordmark

The thread has got a little confusing as to what is being done and where. Can you please update us as to what you expected from the works.
If the work should have been done on your property, and nothing has changed and you can be sure of that then I would be questioning the job. Just because he can supply an invoice does not make the work real, anybody can print a realistic invoice out! It is highly unlikely there will be any pictures, but I would be asking for a breakdown as to whats been done, and some sort of evidence to say it has been done.
How about asking other neighbours to see if they recall work being done?
If doing the work on your side, I would have got my own workers in and paying for them myself and expect payment from the neighbour instead, rather than trusting somebody employed by a neighbour to work on your property! I would have also insisted not to allow work to be done on my property whilst away on holiday unless the workers were under instruction from myself. You need to make sure that it has been installed correctly to prevent damage to your property, such as having to be at least 5 meters away from your property.0 -

Sounds like a reasonable request.
One thought though - I think all new soakaways need to be at least five metres from any building and saturate any nearby foundations. If a new soakaway has been installed, you certainly need to know where it is located.
If you really want to be a pain, ask to see the documents to show it has been approved & signed off by building control (not that I think it is required).
Edit: This should be fun.... http://www.eden.gov.uk/planning-and-development/building-control/building-control-guidance-notes/rainwater-soakaway-design-guidance/
I'm betting most terrace houses do not have a front garden big enough to meet the siting requirements for a new soakaway...Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Where is the soakaway?
Earlier it looked like if it was in your land he would pay 100% if on his he wanted a contribution.
Would it be possible to have a chat with him about what's been done? Without getting angry etc? You make it sound like an invoice was just dropped through the letterbox without any further information, so I think you should at least be able find out what you're being asked to pay for.0
