How Many Movies Can I Store On 1 DVD?

Considering each film is around 700Mb? The obvious answer is 6, as this takes up 4.2Gb of data on a blank 4.7Gb single layer disk, but i've heard having this much data on the disk could ruin the quality of the film when watching it.

So what is the ideal number of films/amount of data i should stick on 1 single layer disk?

I have many DVD's with 6 films on and there is no difference in the quality from playing them on my hard drive.

it shouldn't matter how many you have on a disc...I have 5 movie's on 1 dvd just to store...but the quality is fine on all...it depends on how offen you are going to watch them I suppose...:D

  • Cheers guys,

I actually plan to watch the films straight from the CD in the DVD player, not the hard drive. Would this make any difference?
  • The quality of the film won't be degraded by the amount of data on the disc, it is the size of the video file that is important.

You can store as many as you want within reason, however to get more on you will need to compress them more which will reduce the quality.

If you're happy with the quality of the video of the files you have just put 6 on each disc, blank DVD's are cheap anyway so the amount of cash you will save by putting more on is minimal.

Playing from the DVD drive will not affect the quality either. It;s irrelevant whether you play them from the hard disk or the DVD drive, if it's the same file the quality will be the same.

And feel I want to die

  • Cheers Bill, I'm happy with the quality so i'll stick 6 on there.
