Smart vacations / RCI

Hi,
This iis my first post so any assistance would be appreciated.
I have just returned from a holiday at an MGM hotel in Albufiera and I was subjected to a lengthy sales pitch about a 'holiday club' with a company called Smart Vacations.
Basically it involves paying a deposit of £1150 to get a 2 week 5* accommodation for up to 6 people at an MGM hotel to be taken within 12 months (therefore only have to pay for flights)
You are then required to pay the remaining fee of £4345 which enables you to book 4 weeks 5* accommodation at any RCI hotel in the world for no additional fee (again only flights etc)
-potentially saving thousands as includes Disney land Hilton etc.
There were additional benefits ie the option to purchase additional an addition weeks hotel stay for only £255.
This pitch was done on the MGM hotel site (possibly linked to Club Infiniti?) and was started by a member of 'staff' calling my hotel room and he already had my details therefore it appeared to be genuine. There was an endless stream of other hotel guests being pitched to whilst we were there.
But i am now concerned this may have been a con - as it seems just too go to be true.
Further there were 2 contracts one I belive with MGM for the deposit and initial 2 Weeks and the 2nd contract with 'Smart Vacations' which detailed the remaining payment and other 4 weeks at the RCI accomodations.
Has any one else had any experience with this? I need some advice before I decide whether to cancel (still within the 14 day cool off period)
Many thanks

Run to the hills, cancel as required in writing and notify your card company. the companies will have changed their names before you ever see any benefits, regrettably it seems Portugal and Malta are the last homes of the high powered 'its not really timeshare' salesmen in Europe. Think, would you spend £5500 at home without thinking carefully, I hope the answer is no, and that should be your answer now!0

Thanks for the replies, cancellation is now submitted.
It's a bit cheeky the fact that the MGM hotel chain is clearly in on it which makes it seem more authentic- but I'll definately be steering clear.
Thanks again.0
