Installing Windows 10 on Win 8 Computer

I am trying to install Windows 10 on Win 8 Computer using their system bar link it first says it will restart the computer which it didn't so I closed it then came back up saying checking for updates but has been like this for over 2 hours doing nothing.

What can I do now?

Edit: It has now finally started to download Win 10

I did a test install of Win10 upgrade on my Win7 machine a few months back and it literally flew through.

Last week I decided to take the plunge for real before the cut-off date and it took over 6 hours....

Last minute rush? Or MS punishing you for not taking the plunge sooner?

Will it really be a cutoff date or will it be extended?

I have just installed Linux on a pendrive (usb stick).
It is OK but slow doing some stuff, quick on other stuff.
I quite like it but I am gonna have to go to windows 10.
If I have problems installing win 10 I can use the linux to get back in the net.

I've upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 this morning - took 3 hrs 15 mins.
