Solicitors checking contract & searches

So my solicitors are now in the process of checking the contract that's been sent by the vendor's solicitors as well as all the results from the searches carried out.
What sort of time frame does this take? They have said it will take a week to check it all and get any queries ready to send back to the vendor's solicitors. Calling every day to try and move it along again.
That sounds a bit of a long period of time to me. Is that a fair time period or are they padding that out to allow time in case something more interesting crops up on another case they are working on?

You are spending, presumably, a very large sum of money and you want the people who are making sure it is done properly to rush?
Would you rather be told a week and it take two days or vice versa? You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -

Just wondering on previous experiencesMortgage - £124,903 Sept 2016-Jan 2017 OP target £1,750/[STRIKE]£1,550[/STRIKE]0 -

Seems reasonable based on my previous experiences. And then you move on to trying to get satisfactory answers to queries, which is a how-long-is-a-piece-of-string timeframe.0

In my experience, this particular step doesn't take longer than a week. The delay comes in the next step... waiting for the other side to respond to those queries your solicitor is currently preparing. I had one query we chased for months to get a satisfactory response.0

Also depends if they have received ALL the searches back or are still waiting for one (or two....).
If you, and all his other clients, all call the solicitor every day, let's say 5 minutes each call, and 25 clients, that's 2 hours of his day(every day) saying "Sorry I've not had time to complete all the checks yet."
.................
There's nothing wrong with chasing when needed, but a bit of common sense, and patience, is also required.0
