Car Insurance query

First post, think my car insurance company are taking me for a ride. Literally!
I'm moving house so I rang my car insurance company up to tell them this. When I told them the postcode the guy on the phone said he had to go talk to a senior and would I hold for 2 minutes. When he came back he told me that they couldn't insure me at my new address because it is a new estate and the underwriters haven't got a rating/surveyed that area yet so they couldn't give me a price at all.
The only option they gave me was to cancel my insurance with them and lose the 6 months no claims I'd built up so far this year which doesn't seem right. Why should I have to lose half a year of my no claims when it's not my fault? I would get a refund because I paid my premium upfront in January and they would wavier the £45 cancellation fee. They then said they could run my details through there system and see if anybody else would insure me in that area so I gave it a go and it came back £800 more than what I paid in January!
I told them I would sit and wait on it because I don't move until Friday and I wanted advice before I did anything else because it just doesn't seem right at all. I'm only 25 and my car insurance is enough already without having to take out another insurance policy and wait another 12 months before I get another years no claims to my name.
Can anybody give me any directions/pointers on this as I don't think it right!

Your insurer is correct.
You are the one changing the goalposts.
Their offer not to charge a cancellation fee is a genuine one so snatch their hand off before they take it off the table

6 months no.claims doesn't exist. You only earn it after a completed year. Do some quotes online, you may find other insurers can find your address and give you a decent price. It is annoying when something like this happens. Remember to always run quotes on a new address or ring up your insurer with a prospective new address before you move, gives you more time should anything like this happen.0

Also, put your refund towards a new policy!0
