LONDON weekend hotel breaks - any special offers/deals..?

Looking for a break mid August, Friday 12th and Saturday 13th nights.
I'm a total amateur at organising this kind of thing. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for a good value hotel room? I wouldn't know where to start in finding something!
Any help at all much appreciated.

Friday and Saturday nights in peak holiday season probably aren't the sort of dates where your liable to get good deals - they;re usually aimed at filling up vacancies at less popular times (generally Sundays and term times).
Some of the London colleges rent otu their student accomodation over the summer - Imperial and LSE are two I know of that do so

You can try Happy Monday's from Accor. https://secure.accorhotels.com/authentication/ssoLogin.action?appContext=&gotoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.accorhotels.com%2Fgb%2Fpromotions-offers%2Fweek-end-offers%2Fowm001333-happy-mondays.shtml&ticket=ST-2146291-LoKHfKlwFxtcwa6XobDe-accor&userlogin=null
You can't book until the Monday and Tuesday two weeks before but you can find substantial savings.0 -
try booking.com, they are one of the largest OTAs there are - most hotels will be signed up with them.0

hotels.com , register as they sometimes have "secret" members prices that don't show up on the other search engines , I saved £32 on a hotel I wanted which showed £140 elsewhereEx forum ambassador

They have had some great deals on this offer. I saw a 4 star one a couple of weeks ago for £60.0 -

LSE Bankside House in SE1 is in a wonderful location very close to the Thames, 100m to Tate Modern, 200m to Shakespeare Globe, 100m to Millenium Bridge (For access to North of the river eg St Pauls etc.
Walking distance to Borough Market, London Eye and most of Dickens novels were set in the area.0 -
I've had good value in the past with top secret hotels from last minute - you don't get to know the exact hotel before booking just roughly where it is and the facilities / star rating.

Or look on groupon/living social - they sometimes have good deals.0 -
Download the "Hotel Tonight" app.
Does exactly what it says, you can book a room on the same night. You can get good deals, but can be risky. However, you can book up to a week in advance for peace of mind.0 -
If you can't find the sort of hotel you want at such short notice, this is another site for university rooms:
http://www.universityrooms.com/en/city/london/home
If you're on your own, these places have a plethora of single rooms out of term-time, so can be MUCH cheaper than hotels for solo travellers.
Assuming a couple, there are still also lot of double/twin rooms available for those date:
E.g.
Bloomsbury (close to British Museum, Esuton) B&B £95/room/night.
Westminster (close to Abbey, Houses of Parliamrnt, Thames, London Eye etc) self-catering £75/room/night.0
