I am with Virgin and my speeds are getting slower and slower Virgin blame BT and BT blame Virgin.
After 3 years with Virgin I am now fed up with them so I am going to request a MAC and move.

Before you move it might be as well finding out the real reason your connection is slowing down. If it's due to line conditions it won't matter which ISP you go to, unless you go down the LLU route, since the problems will just follow you.
If your line is ok and it's down down Virgin being hopeless then if you want a decent connection, excellent support and no throttling etc. then look at Newnet - of course it's not the cheapest but in my case speeds remain constant 24/7 at about 3500 kbps on an "upto" 8 meg package - long line means that's the best I will get.Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p0 -

Im with BT for exactly that reason. If it fails, its up to BT to get it sorted, and no third party is involved. A friend has Tiscali, and hes been bounced from one to the other for months. BT isnt the cheapest, but its reliable."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
What is the LLU route?0

Sorry, stick your exchange details here - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and look at the "Local loop unbundling presence" bit. If any show as enabled then they have their own equipment available in your exchange. They would just plug your wires into their kit instead of BTs.
Certain line conditions may change - attenuation etc., not necessarily for the better.
One benefit of LLU is the ISP can make changes to your connection from a desk somewhere instead of forwarding any requests to BT who may or may not act on them.
Thats a simple version of it, I'm sure there are better qualified folk on here to detail the finer points.Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p0 -
Have a look at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/
I've been with idnet for a couple of years and found them to be consistant reliable and very helpful...no callcentre!

Thinkbroadband is an excellent resource and the forums give you an idea of which ISPs are worth looking at.
I should have added that if any problems lie in the actual line from the exchange to your home and or internal wiring, these will remain no matter where you go.
Changing to a LLU provider may make a difference with the conditions in the exchange itself but if you make sure all is ok at your end and you can confirm it is Virgin who are the problem then at least you know another decent ISP should give you better service.Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p0 -
