Old life assurance policy and alcohol

Hi. I need some advice please.
I took out a life assurance policy back in 1990 and naturally answered all the questions accurately including lifestyle ones including smoking and drinking. I was a smoker back then but stopped 15 years ago now. However I have developed an alcohol habit and drink a beer and a bottle of wine every evening, amounting to 100 units a week; I know way beyond the recommended levels, and I am having some support to do something about it.
However, having disclosed this to my doctor, do I need to inform these long standing Insurers?
Thoughts appreciated.

It has no impact on historical policies. It would have an impact on a new policy should you look for a new one. Medical and lifestyle questions are a snapshot in time. You dont need to inform the insurer of changes.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
