Chrome on Android - unwanted pop-up

My wife clicked "OK" on a popup from "amazon.com-promotions.online" earlier while viewing the Daily Mail website. Now it won't go away. Neither AVF anti-virus or Malwarebytes have found anything with a scan - any suggestions?

I suggest you start by removing the "Anti Virus" from your phone.

Total and complete snake oir of the highest order.
It wont find anything because every android app runs in its own sandbox and doesnt have the capability to interrogate other apps (apart from the filename) .. totally useless

Next, be careful what you click ... Although at first glance, that link looks like it is related to amazon, it is most certainly not. Look at the URL, it is a subdomain of "com-promotions.online"

    Tricky f##kers >:(

Moving forward, first go into your security settings and UNtick the option that says "allow install from unknown sources" .

Next, go through your list of installed apps, and remove any that have been installed around the time that the issue started.
The culprit is most likely a "battery analyzer" or some other such useless crap.
Look for a name you dont recognise.
If you uninstall the wrong one - no harm done, just re-install it :)

Remove the offending app and your problem will be gone.

    Hope this helps
    Andy

    Thanks Andy.

I agree re anti-virus apps but can't convince wife or daughters to uninstall them.

Likewise, I wouldn't have clicked on the 'OK' button but my wife did (she won't again lol).

"Allow install from.unknown sources" was already unticked.

No apps there that aren't already on my own Moto G.

Unfortunately, being Chrome on a Motorola, I can't just uninstall and reinstall it.

Update: now the biggest problem is clicking on any Daily Mail page takes us to an adult site. As far as I can tell, DNS settings are same as on my phone which follows links fine.

    Google Chrome:
    1. Click the menu icon "≡" at the top right of the browser window, choose "Tools" and choose "Extensions" to open a new "Options" tab.
    2. Uncheck "Enabled" to disable an extension, or click "Remove" to delete it completely.
    3. Click the "Disable" link under the plugin you want to disable

To reset your web-browser app to its default settings, follow the below procedure:
    1. Open the web browser app.
    2. Tap on the Menu key > Settings.
    3. Go to the Advanced section > Content Settings.
    4. Tap on Reset to default.
